The Notting Hill Carnival is an explosion of fun, food and culture. Europe’s largest street festival began way back in 1964. Every August bank holiday weekend up to two million revellers pass through the streets of west London. This years Carnival kicks off with the launch of the London Calypso Tent on Friday 28th July and the Carnival weekend starts on Friday 25th with the Calypso Monarch finals. Sunday 26th is Panorama ‘Champions of Steel’ competition. Sunday 27th 6am is Jouvert morning which leads into the children’s Carnival and Monday 28th marks the end of the Carnival with the adults Carnival where up to 2 million people are expected on the streets of West London.
The London ‘Notting Hill’ Carnival owes its accreditation to Trinidadian immigrants and individuals of the Notting Hill area who brought the people together after the extreme race riots of the late 1950’s. Carnival helped transform the negativity and now the area is one of the most fashionable hotspots of London.
