Inspiring Carribean Playwrights

The 10th anniversary

Alfred Fagon Award

Alfred Fagon Award recognises the excellent work found in the annual competition for best new Stage Play by writers of Caribbean descent. Celebrating nine successful years as a presence in Black British Theatre, the Award is dedicated to providing inspiration for playwrights of Caribbean descent, who are resident in the UK. Set up in memory of the late Jamaican playwright and actor Alfred Fagon, the Award seeks to discover a wide variety of writing talent.

In 2006 the winner will be awarded £5,000 in recognition of their outstanding achievement in the art of playwriting. (Television, radio plays and film scripts will not be considered).  Already an annual feature in the theatre calendar, this high-profile Award was presented at the Royal Court Theatre at end of November 2007.
