The fact is, over 152,000 students a year choose to make the East Midlands their home during their studies. Within those boundaries are eight world class universities with cutting edge facilities, research departments and student unions. The Social Scene
You go to university to study, but the most productive and happy students know how to balance their social life with their study time. The range of social, sports and cultural activities provided by the University and its surrounding area need to appeal to you. Location, facilities and services are vital to maintain a good social scene and the East Midlands does not lack in any of those areas. High student populations in all six counties mean you won’t feel like a small fish in a big sea.

Whether you are on a campus or not all eight of the instituitions have lively student unions and club scenes. Students in Nottingham have to keep a close eye on their purse strings with one of the best shopping centres in England. For those with culture and history on their agenda the region has world world-class cultural attractions like The Peak District National Park, Sherwood Forest, Lincoln Cathedral and Chatsworth House. In the past year alone big budget directors of films the Da Vinci Code and Pride and Prejudice have been wooed by the region.

Sporting Enthusiasts
Britain is in the grips of sporting fever; as winners of the 2012 Olympic bid and having regained the Ashes, the country has a lot to shout about and so does the East Midlands. With international sporting venues such as Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Silverstone Motor racing circuit, the National Ice Arena, Rockingham Motor Speedway, the National Watersports Centre and Donington Park Grand Prix circuit, those with a keen interest in sport will be spoilt for choice. That is not mention the top class football stadiums throughout the region.

Loughborough University has a long standing reputation both nationally and internationally, for its high level teaching and research in the sport and exercise sciences. The university provides outstanding opportunities for students to develop their academic interests and abilities and to involve themselves in sport at whatever level they choose. With local role models such as Dame Ellen MacArthur and most of the British Rugby team for inspiration, there is little excuse to sleep till lunch time and drink all night.

The East Midlands has a lot to offer graduates thanks to organisations like  the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) who work with a range of partners to create a thriving business climate in the region.
