Have I got to register with a doctor at uni?
I’m living in halls in my first year and I’m
not sure how I go about this.”

x-cel advice: A recent healthcare survey carried out by the NUS shows that 1 in 10 students were not registered with a doctor, 1 in 10 didn’t attend the doctor because of cost worries and over 9% of students just didn’t know how to go about finding their local doctor- so you are not alone in your enquiry. Most if not all colleges or universities in the UK will have a campus doctor and they are all free. If you are living in halls it is extremely important that you register.
Contact your student welfare officer at your NUS building and they should help give you directions of where to go. Often on the smaller campus the doctors may only be in resident a few days of the week so find out when this is. There is nothing worse than having to find a doctor when you are already ill so make sure you find out where to go and register in Freshers Week.
