Tim Kash

New MTV presenter in New York

Tim Kash at 25-years-old has hit the big time having been picked as one of the new presenters at the home of MTV in New York. For five years he presented MTV News in the UK and before that, Top Of The Pops.

However, Tim Kash never grew up wanting to be presenter. His first love was always music. So, after applying for jobs at a few record labels he ended up getting an excellent placement at one of the best independent record labels at the time. Whilst this was an amazing opportunity it wasn't a particularly well paid position. So Tim juggled this with another job as a runner for a Far East broadcaster. It was only until one day when a presenter was ill for a show that Tim’s fate was set. “They were frantically ringing around for another presenter, and I just put my hand up and said, ‘Let me do it.’ It went from there really.”

His new job on MTV News is now pretty much the same as in the UK. He meets every day with the MTV News team to discuss what reports they are going to focus on and who the key interviewees should be. Then, arrangements are made to interview “whoever is in town!” In the afternoon they record the show, which then goes to air that afternoon, every hour. In addition to his role as an MTV News presenter he will also be more involved in other productions such as hosting the live pre-show for the MTV Movie Awards in LA, which went out worldwide, for example.

So, what advice would the British Export now offer any young presenting hopefuls about the job? “It's not rocket science, it's just a way of thinking and explaining things, and connecting with your audience. Next to being an astronaut, presenting is one of the most sought after jobs out there, because anyone with a mouth can do it.”

So, if you’ve got a way with words and you fancy a career in presenting. Then what are you waiting for, if they can do it so can you!
