Do you have... Fresh Talent, Actor, Politician, Entrepreneur, Artist, Hairdresser, Chef, Presenter
I was about 16-17 years old when I got into acting. Before that I was a pretty laid back kid. No real goals or ambitions, just trucking along! Acting was something I enjoyed and I just ran with it. A friend of mine was in Grange Hill at the time and I asked them how to go about it all and it went from there.
When the time came for university or drama school I was stuck! I had found something I enjoyed and could potentially study professionally or go the university route...I ended up going the university route. To be honest I’m glad I went because it was an experience that was indispensable. Although at times I felt the grass might be greener on the other side, I figured, if I was going to be an actor, I was going to be an actor, drama school or no drama school.
In my first year at university (2004-2005) I landed my first professional role in the BBC drama, Casualty as one of the patients. It was a daunting experience because it was a completely different world to what I was used to but I adapted quickly and just went with it without asking too many questions.
When the summer came around I landed some experience on a film set and was a runner on the Bollywood film, 'Namastey London'. Knowing that I was pursuing an acting career they gave me a small role towards the beginning with Rishi Kapoor and Nina Wadia which was really nice of them!
After that came a break for me. I was cast as a supporting character (Rafiq Wahid) in the Channel 4 drama, Britz, by Peter Kosminsky. Soon after, work was more frequent. I completed a global 'brand awareness' campaign for Saatchi & Saatchi and another role as a patient on BBC Casualty. After graduating from university in Spring 2007, I knew I wanted to try my hand as a full-time actor after three years of debating the idea!
Most recently I completed two episodes of the BBC, Emmy Award winning drama, Waking the Dead, which is due to air in the Spring.
In terms of the future all I hope is that I'm able to stay blessed and keep working as much as I can. I know I've achieved a lot in a short-space of time and hopefully that can continue. Being 21 I'm convinced I've got a lot more to offer, I just need the right platform to do so.
