Although Kingslee ‘Akala’ Daley is the younger brother of Ms Dynamite, this is an artist who has carved out, in true hip-hop style, his own explosive combination. At just 22 Akala ‘s debut album, “It’s not a rumour” was released by Illa State Records to national critical acclaim.

Akala is out to change the face of rap through its hip-hop routes. He describes the scene now as “garbage” because rap has turned into a reflex idiolect for plastic players with false values and imaginations, who know the price of bling but the value of nothing. “It’s not a rumour” attacks the lazy retrograde rap scene from all sides intent on moving it both forward and back into what it was in the first place – a voice for change, empowerment and salvation, for himself , his people and for the streets.

“It’s not a rumour” is an album that crystallises everything that’s gone before it smashes through current rap conventions. It draws on a spectrum of influences from balladry and soul, to trance, punk and far beyond.
