A Degree in Civil Engineering

Civil Engineers help to make some of the most innovative structures in the UK and abroad. Civil engineers are involved in the design and construction of bridges, tunnels, roads, railway, dams, pipelines and major buildings. The infrastructure for transport, energy, industry and commerce is the result of civil engineering. Our society would not function without civil engineering products.

A Degree in Civil Engineering
A Civil Engineering degree helps to develop students sense of  analysis, design and an understanding of the commercial environment within which they work. You can study a three year degree course a BSc in Civil Engineering or choose the more advanced  four-year MEng degrees to tailor your study and degree title to your developing interests.

A Civil Engineering degree has a number of key features covering areas such as:
Construction Management,  Fluid Mechanics, Geotechnics, Materials, Structural analysis and Structural Forms

Throughout a civil engineering degree, material within the various modules is supported by the use of practical work and design tasks. In years one and two assignments and problem- or project-based learning is offered with a range of applications, so that Civil Engineering students may, if they wish, concentrate only on Civil applications or choose to sample a diverse set of applications.

In the later years students carry out an individual project (design or research) that allows them to demonstrate their abilities and to develop skills within their chosen area of interest.

Civil Engineering Fieldwork and Sandwhich Courses
Civil Engineering Fieldwork is an essential component of a civil engineering degree so look for these when choosing the right programme. A sandwich course allowes students to work for a year in industry within a specific field. This is a great way to earn some money to help with you university fees, get some quality training and also make contacts in the industry for possible employment when you graduate.
