Public Sector Jobs

Careers in the Public Sector are actually extremely varied. Find below just a few of the many positions that are available

Diplomats
Diplomats represent the UK on international issues and promote the UK overseas. They can also gather information about their host country writing reports that can advise ministers on policy or approach. Starting salary: £17-20k (23k London)

Environmental Health Officers
Work for councils maintaining standards of hygiene in public places and investigating any outbreaks of diseases. They are involved with inspection of properties and legally advise people on regulations

Healthcare Managers
Run healthcare organizations from the coordination of patient care and healthcare staff to provide good services to organizing paramedical services as well as catering and cleaning departments.
Starting Salary: £20,000 (without London weighting).

Housing Officers
Housing Officers manage housing services and deal with all people who may have problem with their housing from council houses through to the homeless.
Starting Salary: £15-26,000 (dependend on experience)

Prison Officers
Prison officers help with the running of prisons and look after the needs of the prisoners whilst maintaining control and providing assistanace and opportunity for rehabilittation.
Starting Salary: £18k (plus £4, 250 local pay)Senior Officer: £28k

Probation Officers
Probation Officers work in residential homes, prisons and day care centres and help offenders get back into society after prison as well as providing support  for those on parole. They work with the courts, social services and the police as well as offering support to victims of crime.
Starting Salary: Trainees £18k approx  Qualified officers earn around £26,229 a year.

Social Workers
Social Worker deal with people from all ages and all backgrounds. They provide practical support and to help people with mental health and physical difficulties as well as social problems. They can work for local councils or private care homes and with large groups of people or on and on-to one. They may have to assess individuals  in an official capacity as well as reccommen treatment or action. Their overall aim is to help people identify their problems and then come up with potential solutions to help them deal with these problems
Starting Salary: £21,600k to £30,900 (dependent on type of work and employee).

Tax Inspectors
Tax inspectors give tax advice and asses tax liabilities and evasion  of companies and individuals. They also work with HM Revenue & Customs =negotioating settlements
Starting Salary: £20k plus

Trading Standards Officers
Trading Standards Officers are there to protect the consumer and make sure that goods and services are sold according to legistaltion. They are also there to give advice to consumers and traders and they have the power to prosecture those who are not meeting these standards. As a trading standards officer you could find yourself involved with undercover operationt o discover fraud and you can also stop hazardess products from reaching the stores.
Starying Salary: £15-20k (trainee);21- 50k (Qualified officers)
